Nicole Mary Kidman is an Academy Award winning Australian actress. She, in addition to her Academy Award, is the three-time Golden Globe winner for Best Actress. In the year 2006, Nicole Kidman was hailed as the highest paid actress in the film industry. On the same year, she was awarded with the Companion of the Order of Australia (AC), the highest civilian honour of Australia for "service to the performing arts as an acclaimed motion picture performer, to health care through contributions to improve medical treatment for women and children and advocacy for cancer research, to youth as a principal supporter of young performing artists, and to humanitarian causes in Australia and internationally."

She made her debut in the year 1983 when, as a fifteen year old girl she appeared in the Pat Wilson music video for the song Bop Girl. Though residing within the glamorous industry for years she was never content with her performances. Though they were criticised by well known critics and in a positive mode, she was looking for a real breakthrough. It was with the film, a thriller Dead Calm that she got her breakthrough role.

It was from this time that Kidman's acting career has developed greatly and has been termed as one of the bests of Hollywood. Her splendid performances in several films, such as To Die For, Moulin Riuge! and The Hours, that earned laurels for her through critical acclamation but also many film awards. In 2003, Kidman received her Star on the Walk of Frame in Hollywood, California, that certified her as one of the most successful actresses of her time.

She is also known for her fromer marriage with Tom Cruise, the internationally famous Hollywood actor as well as her current marriage to singer Keith Urban. Apart from her glamarous world, she is known as widely advocating a variety of charities and causes. She has made the Goodwill Ambassador for the UNICEF from the year 1994. Other than this, she has also worked to help raise money for and draw attention to the plight of the most disadvantaged children in Australia and around the world. In 2004, she was honored as the Citizen of the World by the United Nations.
